About Sutherland

Sutherland – Britain’s most remote and sparsely populated county – a true wilderness, teeming with wildlife and a total population of only 13,700 in an area one third of the size of Wales. This is made up of spectacular mountains and open moorland with occasional fertile valleys and stunning coastlines.

The Kyle of Sutherland has four salmon rivers flowing into it, and from Linsidecroy there are sweeping views over to the mountains of the west. As well as interesting and precious gardens to visit. Linsidecroy is convenient for both east and west coasts.

In the west (Ullapool, 1 hour) is an extraordinary mountain landscape of remote inlets, islands and deserted sandy beaches. To the east is Dunrobin Castle, whisky distilleries and the cathedral town of Dornoch. Cape Wrath, The Castle of Mey, John o’ Groats, the spectacular north coast and ferries to the Orkney islands are within reach, about two hours away.

Within the strath is an abundance of wildlife including nesting Buzzards and Ospreys. Also within reach is the migratory nature reserve of Loch Fleet and the seabird colonies of Handa Island, not to mention the resident seals and dolphins of the Moray Firth.

With mountains populated by red deer, rivers with returning salmon and gentle hill lochs, Linsidecroy is the ideal location for sporting enthusiasts wishing to enjoy fishing, stalking and hill walking.

For others simply looking to enjoy the beauty of the Highland landscape, golf courses, cycle routes and walking trails are in abundance.

Those looking for a more gentle pace of holiday will delight in the Northern Lights and the stunning range of landscapes – a real temptation for those looking to practice their painting and photography skills.
